Scenes From Sunday 4/2/17

Sunday felt like spring in NYC, so everyone was out and about, shopping and dining al fresco.

I began my 10,000 steps journey in Brooklyn where I grabbed a bagel and ate in Cooper park. There were dogs, babies and groups of people hanging out and I could actually picture summer.

I got moving by heading via the L train to Union Square, it was a bit hectic, so I choose to venture down to Lower East Side. I picked Cafe Marma, for lunch. I really love the simplicity of the food and the low key vibe of the cafe. People come and go or sit and chat. Laptop friendly, so you can get a good amount of work done in peace. The area is changing, I spotted Blue Bottle across the street, hopefully this will be one of the few commercial businesses that make an appearance.

Post lunch, I wandered through Soho. The shops were bustling and the streets were filled with all sorts of fashion forward people. I especially felt like all the buildings were dazzling, from the sun beaming down. I rounded out my walk by going through Little Italy.  I wanted to see if anything changed in this area and to my relief its still holding on to its charm.

New York is a city that never sleep, but on a beautiful, bright day, this city is truly amazing.

Oculus

Oculus has been opened since summer 2016. The Westfield shopping center at World Trade Center, literally has it all from big chains like Banana Republic and Apple to luxury boutiques like Dior and Aesop. Not to mention a Wework office space for budding entrepreneurs.

The interior is lined with bone white pillars that form a skeleton like shape. Even more striking, the ceiling spans over 95 feet high, tremendous enough to make any busy commuter spare an upward glance.  At the very least, if you have the time, go check out what $4 billion dollars looks like for yourself.

According to the Santiago Calatrava Valls, architect, the building resembles a bird flying from a child’s hands. The building is a welcome contrast to the standard skyscrapers as well as a useful 24 hour transfer point.

On a cold and rainy day Sunday, I took a stroll over to a cafe called Maman. I warmed up with a delicious, fresh out of the oven, nutty chocolate cookie and an earl gray tea. It was such a treat to be in a bright and airy space that literally every corner of the was instagramable.

Views from The Standard Hotel

One of my dearest friends turn 30, at the end of March. To celebrate he had a lovely brunch for 20 of his closest friends. The Standard Hotel Grill at Chelsea, was a great venue to hold such a special event which included a private wine room and views of the entire city.
