Whitney Biennial

It doesn’t hurt to visit the Whitney museum with beautiful views of NYC, expansive outdoor installations and a stroll along The High Line. Yet, the real gem is the Biennial exhibit.

I am loving this museum at the moment. I can’t remember when I’ve been to modern art museum and said to myself, I get it. I’m seeing the US from all sides. Yes, there were installations that were painstakingly made, but I had no idea the meaning. There were also political, racial and cultural messaging smacking you in the face. It’s jarring, because its real. Damn it was great to see African American art, artists and topics from Harlem renaissance to a simple cook out. The curators balanced it out, with images of an evangelical baptism in Kansas, industrial presence from Pittsburgh and an abstract of George Washington crossing the Delaware river. All of which deserved thought on where American stands as country in comparison to moments reflected off the walls.

Lastly, I must mention that I was completely engrossed with “Harmony of Difference” by Kamasi Washington. The short had a mesmerizing combination of jazz and human imagery.

Comme des Garcons exhibit @ The MET

“Rei Kawakubo for Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between—Gallery Views”

Clothing is art? Not sure, go see this exhibit and then decide. The fabrics, tailoring, wigs and colors fuel this question. If that isn’t enough all of the pieces literally prompt you to decide with titles such as:

Absence/Presence
Design/Not Design
Fashion/Anti-Fashion
Object/Subject
Clothes/Not Clothes

The exhibit is cozy in size and can be viewed in under 45 mins. I love that the exhibit allows viewers to take any route through a maze of pure white massively curved walls, where the clothing peeks through at every turn.

The Rei Kawakubo exhibit was made possible by CONDE NAST and will be on view at The MET until September 4th, 2017.

Atlantic City- Borgata Casino

In honor of a friend’s birthday, a group of friends headed to south shores of New Jersey for some gambling, dinning and clubbing fun.
We stayed at the Borgata Resort and Casino. The hotel is top notch with such great decor details. I had a great time and look forward to the next group trip where attempts will be made at more adventurous betting.

The Kitchen at Grove Station

I read an article about The Kitchen at Grove Station, in the New York Times, over a month ago. The review made it sound promising and worth a try. One of my closest friends had just gotten back from Spain and it seemed like the perfect restaurant to have a solid catch up.

The decor is amazing. Everything was perfectly coordinated to exude a sophisticated rustic cabin. I wish I took more photos of the decor because the space had all the key elements of my dream home. From the plush velvet booths to the hand carved oak chairs, white marble tables and painted bricks in antique white.

The dinner menu, seasonal, was broken into four categories; cold and light fare over to hot and larger entree portions. Your visit can be for any occasion, which I thought was a unique offering.

My friend and I split three light apps, sweet and sour lentil salad, Spring Shrimp Carpacio and Razor Clam. We each had one a entrée Gionone Chicken and Monkfish and closed out the meal sharing the strawberry shortcake dessert. For now, this restaurant is BYOB, but everything is so lovely about the establishment, I doubt they would fall short on their beverage offering. Think of it as bonus.

The meal overall was filling and delicious, but by no means did we need a wheel barrel. Basically, I am obsessed and will be going back to try another dinner service as well as their brunch.
